It was in the 1980′s when Diwalwal became a gold-rush site, attracting hundreds of illegal small-scale mines competing for territory and gold. Although Diwalwal is rich in gold deposits, it has a reputation of a violent and dangerous place. There have been several reports of people who died and suffered injuries due to accidents and collapses. I don’t understand why those operators still use harmful mining techniques, when they can take advantage of technology these days. They can easily use gold metal detectors (lots of metal detectors sale available online) instead of utilizing primitive techniques. I watched a TV documentary about Diwalwal a few years back and the place is a huge mess! They employ underage, women, shootouts and rivalry are also rampant.
